Juergen Geist is professor and chair of the Aquatic Systems Biology Unit and the Limnological Research Station at Technical University of Munich, Germany. His research focuses on understanding how multiple stressors affect functioning, resilience and spatio-temporal patterns of biodiversity in freshwater systems. He is also interested in developing evidence-based and transdisciplinary conservation and restoration strategies. In the context of hydropower and fish passage, his team is currently involved in projects evaluating the ecological consequences of innovative hydropower technologies, fish passage restoration and pumping technologies in Europe.
Dr. Geist has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and serves on several national and international committees including the German Water Research Perspectives Commission, the Commission of Ecology of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences as well as the Nature Conservation Commission. He has received several prestigious awards including the State Excellence in Academic Teaching Award.
